Everybody Sings - Pohutukawa Coast
is an all-comers mixed-voice choir, meeting at Pohutukawa Coast Presbyterian Church, 5 Jacob's Way, Maraetai on Tuesday Evenings (7 to 9pm).
Term 1, 2021 starts 9th Feb to 6th April.
ABOUT THIS CHOIR
Founded in 2013 by Felicity Wooding, the Pohutukawa Coast Choir, as they were known, has had a number of Musical Directors, and has grown in number and skill over the years. Like most of our choirs, this is a mixed-voice, non-auditioned choir, and at the end of 2020, they decided they would like to join Everybody Sings. We are delighted to welcome them to our choir family!
They will be directed from the beginning of 2021 by Rebecca Starr, a local resident from Beachlands. Rebecca has been a member of our Stonefields Choir for the past 7 years and has been training to be a Choir Leader for the past 2 years.
The aim of all of our choirs is to have fun, sing our hearts out, maybe learn some new skills or rekindle some old ones and of course do the occasional performance.
Our choir membership is incredibly diverse being made up of people from 16 to 80 and from all walks of life and nationalities. Some of us read music others do not, some of us have been in choirs before in NZ or further afield and again many are new to choral singing.
We are not a religious choir but this does not stop us singing celebratory hymns or songs if we feel they will add to our repertoire. We sing a mixture of styles of music: gospel, world, Māori, Pasifika, folk and pop arrangements, plus some of the more accessible classical choral music in the repertoire.
We meet to practice at the Pohutukawa Presbytarian Church, 5 Jacob’s Way on Tuesdays during school terms at 7pm for around 2 hours with a short refreshment break in the middle of the session.
